Lake Kawana Latest Attraction Opened On Sunshine Coast

One of the many attractions on the Sunshine Coast, Lake Kawana, was opened in 2004 by Premier Peter Beattie. Mr Beattie said the 2.5-kilometre man-made lake was a tremendous boost to the stock of quality, local recreation facilities.

Lake Kawana, corner Main Drive and Sportsmans Drive, Kawana Waters on the Sunshine Coast.
"It offers fun for the whole family as well as being a great venue for a range of national, state and local canoeing, kayaking and rowing events," Mr Beattie said.

The developer, Lensworth Kawana Waters, planned to encourage club and school involvement in using the lake, as well as open up training and competition opportunities for amateurs right through to the elite athletes.

Lake Kawana holds around the same volume of water as 6,300 Olympic swimming pools. The average depth is 4.6 metres, and offers another dimension to the choice of attractions available for local residents and visitors.

"The stadium gives Quad Park an international profile as a centre for international sporting events, entertainment and recreation and that's a great add-on for the Sunshine Coast region.
