Cycling Queensland's Off-road Code for Recreational Riding

Cycling Queensland's code of conduct includes ways to minimise environmental impact and to minimise risk to off-road cyclists.

Minimise environmental impact

Avoid skidding. Skidding reduces control and damages the track.
Stay on the designated tracks. Do not cut corners.
Avoid riding on wet tracks.
Carry your rubbish with you, including punctured tyres.

Minimise risk

Always wear an Australian Standard Approved bicycle helmet when riding
Maintain control of your bicycle. Ride at a safe speed.
Ride within your ability and according to track conditions.
Pass other users safely by slowing down and announcing your presence.
Always give way to other users of the track.
Keep left and apply the road rules where possible.
Slow down when approaching blind spots such as corners.
Ensure you have the proper equipment: pump, spare tube, tyre levers, water, food. If you are in a remote area notify friends, relatives and/or the proper authorities, eg a ranger, of your intended route. Carry a mobile phone if possible.
Ensure you have the proper permits to access the venue.
Obey all permit conditions and safety or closure notices.
Do not take shortcuts or form new trails.
